Target note

Full name: Synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A)
Nature: Glycoprotein present in the vesicles of all synapses; target of levetiracetam.
Normal expression: All grey matter.
Value: Measuring synaptic density in vivo, an early marker of neurodegeneration.
Approaches: [11C]UCB-J, [18F]SynVesT-1 (SDM-8), [18F]UCB-H.
Indications explored: Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, schizophrenia, depression.
Points of caution: Research tool; quantification by modelling.
