Target note

Full name: Lymphatic drainage
Nature: Colloids or macromolecules injected near the tumor, migrating through the lymphatics and retained in the first lymph node relay.
Normal expression: Injection site and lymphatic vessels.
Value: Locating the sentinel lymph node for a targeted biopsy and avoiding complete lymph node dissection.
Approaches: [99mTc]nanocolloids, [99mTc]tilmanocept (Lymphoseek, CD206 target), [68Ga]tilmanocept for PET.
Indications explored: Breast cancer, melanoma, vulvar, cervical, head and neck and prostate cancers.
Points of caution: Insufficient migration or a node filled with tumor that does not take up; depends on the injection technique.
